Fare alert for Maui, Hawaii from the East-coast. Delta just recently dropped the number of miles required to fly from the East-coast to Hawaii. It is currently cost from 45,000 miles to 82,500 miles one-way from Boston to Maui. But for a limited of time they reduced the required mile down to 35,000 miles round trip from Boston to Maui on 01/09/17-01/16/17. It costs 35,000 mile plus $11.20 tax for a round trip from Boston to Maui.

So what happen when Delta drop their price/miles? We could get the same ticket on Flying Blue for less than the required miles. Flying Blue is a partner with Chase Ultimate Rewards so you can transfer your points from Chase to Flying Blue to book your delta flight as low as 15,000 miles one-way or 30,000 miles round trip. Technically, you would save an extra 5000 miles for booking on Flying Blue for the same flight if you don’t have delta miles to burn. See below for an example of the flight on the similar date.

This same flight if you book it with cash, it would cost from $700+ for a round trip ticket from Boston to Maui. So if you would like to take advantage of this deal regularly, consider to sign up for one of the Chase cards to start collecting Chase Ultimate Rewards points for your future trip. Check out the current credit card offer that gives you 80,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points which give you more than 2 round trip tickets from the East coast to Maui. Link

There are many dates available for the same number of miles in January and February so this offer and get away from the snow and sun-bathing on the beach in Hawaii.  You must act quickly because these deal wont last.

Update: Thanks to one of our reader for reminding us that there is another option to use Chase Ultimate Rewards points where you can transfer it directly to Korean Airline. On Korean airline, you can book a round trip to Hawaii for 25,000 miles. Just keep in mind that Korean airline requires you to have prove of your spouse and family member before you could book for them using your miles. This does take some time to do because you need to send in birth certificate and/or married certificate. So if you are planning to book for your family member, just remember to add them in your account prior booking.

That’s some great offer. I have some miles from the American Express Delta credit card. Can i use those to book this flight? Or should i use my Chase points?

Hey Tim, it is best to use Chase Ultimate Rewards points since it is cheaper however, if you have tons of Delta Sky miles, I suggest you use that first since I value Chase Ultimate Rewards points more than Delta because of their multi transfer partners.

I think you should use your Delta Sky miles first since Delta Sky Mile is known to devalued quite often so if you keep them, it will eventually worth nothing.

I have a friend who asked about using Southwest airline miles to get to Hawaii.

To answer her: currently Southwest airline doesn’t fly to Hawaii however they do fly from the east coast to the west coast (California: Lax, SFO, etc..). Recently, there are great sale for flight from LAX to Hawaii for very low price. So she can use her Southwest airline mile to fly from Boston to Los Angeles. Then book that low price ticket to fly from Los Angeles to Hawaii.

I think it is best if you tell us the date. If she is travel during slow season in US then she could get great redemption for those Southwest miles for round trip from Boston to LA. Last time it cost us about 11,000 point per person one way. So about 22,000 round trip.
Regarding the segment from LA to Hawaii, last I checked there was ticket from LA to OGG for $340 round trip. I hope that help.
